Multicultural Advisory Board

As part of our commitment to the LGBT and allied communities and to develop stronger, diverse partnerships, ONE Community created its Multicultural Business Advisory Board in 2012. Advisory Board members include local business and nonprofit leaders who will support ONE Community and lend guidance regarding strategic growth and community involvement to better serve diverse populations.

Angela Creedon

Angela Creedon is the Associate Vice President for University Affairs at Arizona State University. She is responsible for local government relations, community relations, and presidential and provost special events. Creedon has spent many years working in community and government relations and has been recognized through numerous awards. Creedon was awarded the 2002 Athena award by the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce, 2008 Tempe Business Woman of the Year and received the 2010 Segner award from the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce.

Creedon has a bachelor of business administration from the University of Phoenix, certification in Economic Development from the University of Oklahoma and an advanced certificate in Corporate Community Relations from Boston College. Creedon is a loving mother to her two sons Josh and Jake, and has been married to her husband Jeff for twenty-six years.

Brendan Mahoney

Brendan Mahoney is General Counsel for HBI International after many years of legal practice and running a boutique law firm, specializing in commercial disputes, intellectual property and pro-bono non-profit work. He recently served for two years as Mayor Stanton’s Senior Policy Advisor, responsible for economic development, arts and culture, historic preservation, biosciences, aviation, and liaison to the LGBT and Asian communities. Mahoney led the Mayor’s team to enact Phoenix’s LGBT non-discrimination ordinance.

Mahoney has been active in many facets of community service in Arizona and a passionate advocate for equality for all people. He has served in numerous boards and has provided pro bono legal counsel to many non-profits. He recently completed a term as Moderator of the Southwest Conference of the United Church of Christ (Arizona, New Mexico, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez), the highest elected position for the more than 50 churches in the Conference, and headed up the team effort for his church to become the first in Phoenix to be immigrant welcoming. He serves as the Chair of the Phoenix Human Relations Commission.

Mahoney has received recognition for his work in historic preservation, receiving the third City of Phoenix Friend’s of Historic Preservation Award. He also is the recipient of Gay Pride’s Phil Gordon Spirit of Phoenix Award, Equality Arizona’s William McDonald Lifetime Achievement Award, Echo Magazine Hall of Fame 2014, Center for Neighborhood Leadership Unsung Heroes Award, and was Grand Marshall for the 2015 Gay Pride Parade.

Cicely Rocha Miller

Cicely Rocha Miller is the founder of Life Design Event Planning. A graduate of ASU, Cicely conceived her business after working a number of years in the nonprofit sector and discovering that she has a gift for planning events of all types; from fundraising to corporate events, from weddings to gala parties of all sorts. All you have to do is present a concept to Cicely, and then step back and get ready for an explosion of creative energy.

She hand-picked a creative staff and has a network of the best vendors to ensure an event that will have people talking for years to come. She also is the founder of, which she coins as an online resource for the Modern Union that practices true inclusivity. The website unifies same-sex and straight couples with wedding planning advice and connects them with allied vendors. She has also developed a training for vendors looking to be inclusive and work better with the new market called; MRSter Speaks.

When you speak to Cicely, it takes only moments to know that this is a woman who can get the job done – and not merely done, but done splendidly, joyously, and unforgettably. As her by-line states, “Life is designed by Moments, Moments are designed by Us” and the driving force behind the “us” is Cicely Rocha-Miller, event planner extraordinaire.

Chris Haines

Chris Haines has been an employee in the Maricopa Community Colleges system since 1989 and in November 2014 became the Vice President of Student Affairs at Phoenix College. In April of 2015, Haines assumed the role as Interim President.

Beginning in 2011, she served as PC's Dean of Student Affairs. One of her roles was to assure the new One-Stop Enrollment Center, which opened in January 2012, was operating at a high level. Previously to 2011 Haines was the interim associate dean of enrollment services at South Mountain Community College. In 2010 she also served as the Interim Dean of Students at Scottsdale Community College. Haines also served as Director of Athletics/Fitness Center at SMCC for six years. Prior to her services at SMCC and PC she coached collegiality for 14 years at all levels of 4-year colleges and universities, as well as community colleges.

A native of Zion, IL, Haines attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD, majoring in political science/education. She received her Master's degree in Educational Counseling from NAU and will complete her doctorate in Educational Leadership/Higher Education at Northern Arizona University in 2016.

Deanna Jordan

A native from Connecticut, Deanna Jordan has called Arizona home since 2003. She has both her Bachelors as well as Master in Business from Chadwick University. She was a consultant for the Telecom/Information Technology industry, on engagements as far as Australia and Venezuela. She was CEO of Nulogic from 2003 to 2008. She was Director of It for Stinger Welding, and then started her own small business consulting company. Currently, she is Banker for Comerica Bank. Deanna was a long term Board Member of Equality Arizona from 2004 to 20011 and was dinner chair of several dinner events.

Deanna believes the best way to create change is to be the change and that is why she sits on several other Boards. Currently she serves on the Impact for Enterprising Women Board, GPGLCC Board and the Fusion Foundation. Bringing people, process and heart together motivates her to stay active and keep building on the foundations that others have made. Deanna loves to travel both domestically as well internationally, create a culinary experience for friends and follows the mantra “to live is to experience and to experience is to live”.

Donna Tanori

Donna Tanori has served as Fry’s Human Resources leader for more than seven years. In this capacity, she oversees several departments including Talent Management & Training (Management Development Programs), Total Rewards, Payroll Benefits and Associate Relations. At Fry’s, she is a founding member of the company’s Associate 1st Committee, which has helped to grow associate engagement to an all-time high of 91 percent! Additionally, she has led many of Fry’s/Kroger’s initiatives.

Donna is passionate about people, and it shows in her every day interaction with Fry’s Associates as well as our Fry’s Customers. She is a leader with more than 26 years’ experience in the HR field.

Donna is an active volunteer. She regularly participates in the Race for the Cure, assists with The Salvation Army Holiday Warehouse and enjoys serving evening meals at St. Vincent De Paul’s Watkins Shelter. Donna also served on Sojourner Center’s board of directors for more than four years. Sojourner Center is the largest domestic violence shelter in the nation. During her time off, she enjoys spending quality time with her family either traveling or spending a quiet afternoon at the lake on the family boat. She is married and has two grown children.

Gerardo Higginson

Gerardo Higginson currently is the Director of Community Empowerment and Communications for Univision and Unimas Arizona TV and Univision Radio. Before Univision, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon named Higginson as one of his top assistants in January 2004. His responsibilities as a Senior Assistant to the Mayor included Spanish-language and minority media relations and acting as the chief liaison to the Hispanic and immigrant communities, the Asian-American and LGBT communities, as well as the mayor’s representative for the 2010 census, arts and culture issues. Higginson was a reporter and news anchor for Telemundo Arizona, an online journalist for and columnist for La Voz prior to this. He also has more than 11 years of experience in the banking industry, namely working for Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of the West.

Higginson has devoted countless hours volunteering for numerous issues confronting different minority segments. He is currently a board member of the Arizona Opera, member of the ONE Community Multicultural Advisory Board, and the Chairman of the Hispanic Gala in Phoenix for St. Jude Hospital and Research.

Higginson previously served as Chair of the 2014 Phoenix Aids Walk, board member of "De Colores", a shelter for victims of domestic violence and as chair of media and public relations for the annual National Hispanic Women’s Conference, to name a few.

Jenny Holsman-Tetreault

In February of 2016, Jenny Holsman-Tetreault began her role as West Regional General Counsel at US Foods, the second largest food distribution company in the US. Jenny is responsible for providing practical, timely and high quality legal services to various functional groups including Sales, Finance and Credit, Marketing, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Labor and Employment, and Operations.

Prior to this Jenny served as Division General Counsel for Rural/Metro Corporation, the second largest private medical transportation and fire service provider in the country. She handled contract drafting and negotiation, litigation, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, risk management and regulatory matters for the company.

Jenny is very active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for Valley Leadership, the Children’s Museum of Phoenix, Women’s Leadership Council/United Way, Esperanca, the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education, the Maricopa County Bar Association and Wings of Gold for Sun Devil Athletics (supporting women’s athletics). She is also a very proud member of ONE Community’s Multicultural Advisory Board.

Jenny is married to Colin Tetreault, has a two-year-old son, Connor and welcomed their daughter Madeline to the family in April of 2016. In her spare time, she runs triathlons, hikes, pursues awesome food and wine, and travels the world with her family.

Jo Pullen

A native to Scottsdale, Arizona, Jo Pullen is an award-winning business executive with more than 15 years of experience developing and executing all aspects of strategic campaigns. She most recently served as Vice President for Valley Leadership, the region’s premier leadership development organization. Within the first year, she helped the organization secure, through a competitive bid process, to host the Association of Leadership Programs National Conference in 2017. She also led the onboarding of the largest Valley Leadership Institute Class in 37 years, consisting of 58 proven Arizona leaders. And, managed the pilot, approval, funding, and launch of a new program designed for emerging leaders seeking to plug-in to the community and advance their tactical leadership skills—Valley Leadership Advance.

Prior to Valley Leadership, Pullen designed and executed more than 50 annual programs for the Phoenix Business Journal. Under her leadership, there was a 400% increase in program revenue—through sponsorship development, community partner connections, and expense management. She has received several awards throughout her career, including the prestigious American City Business Journals’ American Eagle Award for Excellence—a national award honoring positive impact to the organization’s bottom line.

Her experience includes a host of business-to-business strategic communications management, public relations and entertainment publicity for 7 major motion picture studios, grassroots campaigns for both private and public agencies, and event management.

Karen Bailey & Nelda Majors

Nelda was born and lived in Houston, Texas, until 2003. Lived in Wimberley, Texas 2002-2005. Moved to Scottsdale in 2005. I graduated from the University of Houston with BS degree in 1963. Majored in Physical Therapy and Sociology. In 1975, I started a Physical Therapy contract service providing physical therapy services to over 20 hospitals in several states as well as 5 out patient Texas. Retired in 1990, and then got involved with a friend in commercial real estate and land development projects. We developed the land and sold to home builders. I am still involved in the real estate, but not in any new projects.

Karen Bailey was born in Madisonville, Texas, but spent most of her childhood living in Galveston, Texas. When she was 15, her family moved from Galveston to Texas City, Texas. She attended Sam Houston State University for 1 year. She met Nelda while at Sam Houston, and the following year they both transferred to the University of Houston. She worked for Superior Oil Co. until 1976. Nelda then talked her into coming to work with her. She managed the business end of the company dealing almost constantly with Insurance Companies, payroll duties, and trying to keep all of the secretaries in the various physical therapy departments happy. She did a great job. She retired with me in 1990, and since then has been very involved in raising her two great nieces. We've had Sharla since 1996 and Marissa since since 2001. Sharla is now 23 and Marissa is 17.

Kathey Wagner

Kathey Wagner is President and CEO of Phoenix-based B-On The Obvious, Inc. Arizona's premier business development and executive coaching firm. As an Executive Business Strategist, Kathey and her team of experienced consultants, lead senior leaders and business owners through an examination of their organization; then makes certain they have the right balance of processes, investment, and strategic planning in place to achieve important short-term gains while laying the groundwork for long-term growth.

Kathey's community leadership includes life-long commitment to Special Olympics, Martin Luther King's Jr. Board of Directors in Salt Lake City, Arizona Saves Board Chair in Phoenix, and currently serves on the Arizona's Women Education and Employment (AWEE) Board of Directors in Phoenix.

Kerwin Brown

Kerwin Brown brings considerable experience with over twenty years in marketing and business development. Brown is President and CEO of The Black Chamber of Arizona and has been appointed as Treasurer and Western Regional Director for the United States Black Chambers, Inc. Notable is his involvement as a board member with Take Charge America, board member for Tanner Properties, Inc. and board member for The City of Phoenix Residential Investment Development Effort, as well as a board member for the Phoenix Police Foundation. Brown has been appointed by Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton to sit on the Phoenix Transportation Committee and appointed by Governor Janice Brewer to the Arizona Commission of African-American Affairs.

He has received awards including the Community Partnership Champion's Award from Magellan Health Services, he was awarded Community Leadership Recognition from Pet Smart and The Phoenix Suns, he received the Leadership Award from Power of the Word Ministries and he was a 2013 Father of the Year Honoree for The American Diabetes Association. Brown is also listed as one of the AZ Business Leaders in AZ Business Leaders Magazine.

Kimber Lanning

Kimber Lanning is an entrepreneur, business leader and community development specialist who works to cultivate strong self-reliant communities and inspire a higher quality of life for people across Arizona. Lanning’s passions, which are seen throughout her work, include fostering cultural diversity and inclusion, economic resilience and responsible growth for Arizona’s urban areas.

Lanning owns three small businesses and is the Founder and Executive Director of Local First Arizona, the largest local business coalition in the US. LFA is a widely respected organization that is leading the nation in implementing systems and policies to ensure a level playing field for entrepreneurial endeavors of all sizes. Lanning leads a staff of 22 who work on programs ranging from healthy local food access and rural community development.

Lanning has received numerous awards for her diverse work and extensive leadership. Her work in promoting adaptive reuse in Phoenix’s urban core was recognized by the American Planning Association, who presented Lanning with the Distinguished Citizen Planner Award. Lanning has been recognized as the Citizen Leader of the Year by the International Economic Development Council, named one of the “50 Most Influential Women in Arizona,” was the recipient of the Athena Award by the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, and was the 2014 Leader of the Year in Public Policy.

Layne J Mortensen

Layne J Mortensen has a passion for helping companies innovate by recruiting the best people into the right roles for them to succeed. He understands the importance of diversity, inclusion and equality for all of Arizona’s diverse citizens to build a better workplace and being part of ONE Community’s Multicultural Advisory Board is a role he doesn’t take lightly. He founded LJM, LLC to provide Executive and Senior Recruiting Services that includes program development, research, identification and selection of top talent.

In previous roles he was a Senior Director of the Strategic Recruiting Team (SRT) at Microsoft responsible for creating and developing programs, operations and building a team that led to their mission to identify and hire the best senior technical talent to strategically impact critical areas of the company. Before joining SRT, Mortensen was a Workforce Consultant, where he worked with VP’s and management to understand the best workforce mix of FTE’s, vendors and agency temps to optimize their organizations. Before moving into the Workforce role he was a Staffing Manager with a team focused on candidate generation and placement in technical and operations roles. Mortensen originally joined Microsoft as a Senior Technical Recruiter, hiring technical experts.

Lauren Witte

Lauren M. Witte serves as the Marketing + Communications Manager for the Arizona Technology Council, a private, not-for-profit technology trade association.

Joining the Council in November 2016, Lauren oversees the organization’s event promotions, member communications, email marketing, web development, advertisements and publications, graphic design, and social media. Lauren is responsible for facilitating 52 weekly Lunch and Learn events and 12 monthly Council Connect events each year.

She received Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Creative Writing: Nonfiction and Studio Art: Photography from the University of Redlands in Southern California, earning Departmental Honors in both disciplines and graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Lauren serves on the ONE Community Multicultural Advisory Board (MAB), is Co-Chair of the ONE Community Millennial Multicultural Advisory Board (MiMAB), and is the Partnership Co-Chair for the Phoenix Chapter of Girls in Tech. She currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona with her fiancé, Ian and their corgi, Conan.

Marilyn Purvis

Marilyn Purvis joined Veridus in 2011, drawn by her fascination with policy, the legislative process, and campaigns. In her role with the firm, she focuses on lobbying, client relations, government affairs, elections and polling, media, candidate and initiative campaigns, and the collaboration of The Purple Book.

Purvis graduated cum laude from Arizona State University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Minor in Urban Policy and Planning, and a Certificate in Public Administration. Purvis is currently on the Multicultural Business Advisory Board of ONE Community, the Manifesto Project Board, and the Gabriel’s Angels Young Professionals Board. She is a member of the Greater Phoenix Chamber Commerce Valley Young Professionals and serves as a regular guest speaker at various emerging young professional events in the Phoenix community.

She received an award for Leading for Change and was a 2015 nominee for Best Female Lobbyist under 40 for the Arizona Capitol Times Best of the Capitol awards. In her leisure time, Purvis likes to discover new and local craft breweries in the state, run long distances, read science fiction and historical nonfiction, listen to political podcasts, and travel. Purvis also has a deep love of music.

Tammy Perkins

Tammy Perkins retired from the City of Phoenix executive after 30 plus years of service in local government management. Her Phoenix work assignments ranged from Interim Deputy City Manager with oversight responsibilities of the Aviation, City Clerk and Public Works Departments and the Arts & Culture, Education & Youth and Historic Preservation functions to Neighborhood Services Director and Deputy Neighborhood Services Director managing comprehensive neighborhood revitalization, community development, infill housing & commercial development, zoning & blight code enforcement and resident involvement programs.

Her community involvement included Chair of the Arizona Women’s Town Hall, participant on the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix’s Interfaith Mission, Chair of the Downtown Phoenix YMCA Board of Management and member of the Valley Leadership Board.

Since leaving the City, Tammy has completed the Arizona Attorney General’s Office Mediation Training, served as a mentor for the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy, participated in numerous Osher Lifelong Institute courses and served on Drake University’s National Alumni Board. She is a member of ONE Community’s Multicultural Advisory Board and serves as a leadership/management coach with ASU’s Certified Public Manager Program. Tammy’s current professional memberships include the Association for Conflict Resolution and the International City County Management Association.

Tyler Kinnie

Tyler Kinnie, officially, is a Golden Girls fan who does recruiting, in that order.

I moved to Phoenix to study Business at the DeVry Institute and proceeded to work in construction and technical environments, assuring both strong business partnerships and client experiences. Because of my love for people, the transition into recruiting was a natural fit. I have recruited with Safeway, Endurance International Group and GoDaddy. Recently, I joined Vanguard in 2017. Working alongside of some of recruiting's top performers, we are bringing top talent to the world of Finance.

In my work, I am also proud to support LGBT & allied community groups as well as charitable groups that are supporting families and child advocacy. I have served as President of GoDaddy’s LGBT & allied group, UNITED. In that capacity the team had great success in building awareness and engagement within the organization as well as connecting the company to the communities that it is in. I always seek opportunities to strengthen the relationship with my company and the community.

In my free time, I spend time with traveling with friends, playing with my nieces, being part of the fabulous 2016 Valley Leadership Advanced class, eating (and Instagramming) my way through the country and supporting the community in a variety of different ways.

Katee Van Horn

Katee Van Horn is the VP of Global Engagement & Inclusion for GoDaddy, driving the business imperative that more diverse teams build better products. She also has her own coaching business, Bar the Door, LLC where she provides personal and professional coaching. Katee has the innate ability to quickly assess the individual, organization and leadership development needs and create appropriate and operative solutions.

She is a reputable leader known for building and sustaining trusting, collaborative relationships and alliances to achieve business goals. Her focus is on outreach to diverse and underrepresented communities and building an inclusive culture for GoDaddy.
