Top LGBT-Friendly Cities in the United States

Website Nerdwallet has ranked the top 20 most LGBT-friendly cities in the United States. The rankings were determined by using a combination of the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index, Healthcare Equality Index, percentage of population identifying as LGBT, and rate of LGBT hate crimes reported. San Francisco took the top spot, but unexpected cities like Salt Lake City (ranked #8) and Phoenix (#17) made the list as well.

PHOENIX – The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury begin their title defense on Friday, June 5 with the Fry’s Food Stores Home Opener, and the team will celebrate its 2014 championship prior to the game in a special ceremony.  Phoenix hosts the San Antonio Stars at US Airways Center with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m., doors scheduled to open at 5:30 p.m.

This full-day forum will focus on the shared experiences, needs and resources for people in the LGBT communities and those with disabilities. Through presentations, resources panels, guided discussion and an open dialogue, we hope to show the commonalities of the historical struggles and current civil rights issues for the communities. After the October legalization of gay marriage, many human-rights advocates pointed out that same-sex couples could marry that Friday but be fired Monday for putting wedding photos on their desks at work.

That's because Arizona is one of 29 states without workplace protections based on sexual orientation and one of 32 without workplace protections based on gender identity or expression.

Aunt Rita’s Foundation promotes public awareness of HIV/AIDS and raises and equitably grants funds to 17 Central Arizona programs that prevent HIV/AIDS or assist those living with the disease. Funds from 2014 fundraising efforts will be awarded to all agencies at the annual Red Brunch Gala event on December 6, as well as to report on Aunt Rita’s successes of the year.
